09/29/2015 About the dataset: This dataset tries to visualize abstract topics, which cannot be depicted directly. Based on lexicon articles, wikipedia, describing articles, etc. we tried to figure out, which concrete and visualizable objects are used to depict a specific abstract topic. The images from these articles are called and referred to as SeedImages. We defined 11 abstract topics: Adaption, Agriculture, Air, AirPollution, Biodiversity, Capital, Climate, ClimateChange, Ecosystem, GlobalWarming, GreenhouseEffect Each with different amounts of subtopics (visual, concrete objects) e.g., Adaption is visualized by hummingbird (= have adapted to sip nectar from flowers other birds cannot reach, http://animals.mom.me/hummingbird-adaptations-6227.html), kingsnake (has no poison, but the skin is very similar to a snake which has poison), koala (e.g., their ability to eat eucalyptus) Structure: LicensesFlickrImages.xlsx: Overview of the different license types used in the flickr api. e.g., 0 All Rights Reserved LicensesSeedImages.xlsx: Topic - according to above list of 11 items, Seed image - name of the subtopics Url - adress where the image can be found License & Author SeedImages: Contains 11 folders according to the abstract topics, here you have to sort the SeedImages into. FlickrImages: Contains 11 folders according to the abstract topics and inside of each folder, there are folders named as the subtopics. These suptopics folders contain a .txt. These lists are created with the flickr API. Each list contains the photoID, license, title, tag, description of a photo. With the photoID you are able to get more information to a photo and the photo itself. FlickImagesAllRightsReserved: Same description as in previous folder applies, BUT: Here are also photos with license 0 All Rights Reserved included. More information about how to get additional information to a photo can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/services/api/flickr.photos.getInfo.html or in the flickr api. You need a flickr api key. As we did not create the photos, we only provide a list where you can get the photo we worked with. The use of our lists is in your own responsibility. You have to take care on your own to cite correctly and to ask for permission to use.
